Superoxygenation for Water Treatment

Environmental Engineering & Design Support

Superoxygenation Technology for Water & Wastewater Treatment

Batta Environmental provides the design engineering, permitting, and environmental support behind Speece Cone®-based Superoxygenation systems — helping municipalities and industrial clients dissolve pure oxygen into water and wastewater for cleaner, lower-cost treatment outcomes.

System Design Overview

Engineered for Efficiency, Durability & Simplicity

Every Superoxygenation installation is customized to site conditions. As the environmental engineering partner on these projects, Batta evaluates site hydraulics, permitting requirements, and long-term operational goals to ensure each system is sized and sited correctly from day one.

Designed to Deliver

  • Stainless steel Superoxygenation cone with no moving parts
  • Fully automated oxygen flow controls
  • Side-stream pump as the only component requiring routine maintenance
  • Flexible oxygen sourcing via on-site generation or liquid oxygen deliveries

By dissolving pure oxygen directly into water or wastewater, these systems eliminate the need for hazardous chemicals, lower operating costs, and deliver consistent, compliant results. Batta's role is to ensure that outcome is backed by sound engineering and a clean environmental record.

System Components

A Simple System, By Design

Fewer moving parts mean less maintenance and higher reliability. Batta's engineers work with clients to select and specify the right combination of components for each site.

Field-installed Speece Cone Core Component

Speece Cone®

A hollow stainless steel unit with no moving parts and openings of at least four inches, eliminating clogging risk. Its simple design requires no maintenance, making it the most reliable component in the system.

Oxygen Flow Controls

Proprietary controls fully automate dosing for precise delivery, adjusting in real time to flow conditions to maximize efficiency and reduce operator involvement.

Side Stream Pump

The only moving part in the system, built for a long service life on a standard maintenance schedule, ensuring steady side-stream circulation through the cone.

On-Site Generation or LOX Delivery

On-site generators carry a higher initial cost but lower long-term operating expense. Liquid oxygen (LOX) deliveries require less upfront investment and are simple to implement. Batta helps clients weigh both paths against site-specific demand and budget.

Chemical Cost Comparison

Lower Costs, Fewer Chemicals, Consistent Results

Switching from traditional odor-control chemicals to Superoxygenation reduces operating costs and removes the need for hazardous chemical handling — a benefit Batta evaluates as part of every environmental and cost feasibility review.

  • 20–50% lower operating costs compared to traditional chemicals
  • No ongoing chemical deliveries or storage requirements
  • No increase in sludge production
  • More consistent H₂S reduction than chemical alternatives

How It Works

Maximum Oxygen Transfer, Minimal Complexity

The compact cone design minimizes system footprint while eliminating the need for fine bubble diffusers or pressurized tanks.

1

Side-Stream Draw

Water or wastewater is pumped into the Speece Cone via the side-stream pump.

2

Oxygen Injection

Pure oxygen is metered into the cone through automated flow controls.

3

Rapid Dissolution

Counter-current flow inside the cone dissolves oxygen at high efficiency with no off-gassing.

4

Return & Distribution

Oxygen-rich water returns to the main flow, rapidly oxidizing sulfides and supporting aerobic treatment.

Proven Technology

A Track Record Batta Stands Behind

From force mains to gravity systems and open water bodies, this technology has eliminated sulfides and improved water quality at installations worldwide for more than two decades — the kind of long-term performance data Batta relies on when recommending a design approach.
