The needs for qualified Environmental Service within the Transportation Sector are ever growing. No Transportation Improvement or Enhancement Project is completed without some facet of Environmental Testing, Consulting and/or Engineering Services. We have been providing environmental services to diverse major transportation outlets such as SEPTA, Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), and Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA), and State Highway Administration of Maryland (SHA).

The Purple Line

HAZMAT Assessments and Remediation

The Purple Line is a planned 16-mile light rail line in Maryland that will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George's County. It will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail Red, Green and Orange Lines; at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. The Purple Line will also connect to MARC, Amtrak, and local bus services. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is taking the lead on this project, with the support and close coordination of a team that includes the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, State Highway Administration, and local municipalities in the project area.

BATTA Environmental Associates is pleased to have been named the Environmental Consultant for HAZMAT Assessments and Remediation Services during the pre-construction portion of this project. Our Environmental team, which answers to the Purple Line Transit Constructors, is responsible for ensuring that all environmental concerns are dealt with properly at all sites within the 16 mile project area. The services that BATTA is responsible for performing and overseeing are as follows:

  1. HAZMAT Sampling, and Laboratory Analysis for Asbestos, Lead, Metals, Mold, Hydrocarbons, etc.
  2. Hydrocarbon Soil Testing
  3. Removal and On-Site Remediation of Contaminated Groundwater
  4. Removal and Off-Site Remediation of Asbestos Containing Material
  5. Removal and Off-Site Remediation of Lead-Based Paint
  6. Excavate and Off-Site Remediation of PCB Containing Material
  7. Excavataion and Off-Site Remediation of Radioactive Material
  8. Hazardous Building Material Assessment and Clearance Prior to Demolition

 

Pre-Demolition and  Pre- Construction Environmental work for this project began in early 2017. The overall project is expected to be completed by the end of year 2021, with the Purple Line opening for service in early 2022. BATTA Environmental Associates is proud to have been selected as the Environmental Consultant for this project. Delaware Department of Transportation-Statewide Asbestos Management Services

BATTA Environmental has worked closely with the Delaware Department of Transportation for many years. Currently, the BATTA team is assisting DelDOT with asbestos management services at various locations throughout the state. DelDOT requires these services in support of their right-of-way acquisition and demolition of numerous properties for the construction of new roads. The contract extends three years and requires a number of different services. Our BATTA Project Managers are on call 24/7 in order to facilitate sampling, testing, design, and abatement monitoring. Specifically, the BATTA team will oversee the completion of the following tasks:

  • Asbestos Sampling and Testing
  • Laboratory Services
  • Abatement Construction Specification Development
  • Assistance in Selection of Abatement Firms
  • Abatement Monitoring Activities
  • Preparation of Reports
  • Sampling, Testing, and Risk Assessments for Lead-Based Paint (LBP)
  • Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) Sampling and Testing
  • Worker Health/Safety Plans
  • Other Services as Required
Professional Environmental Consulting Services for Philadelphia International Airport and Philadelphia Northeast Airport

The BATTA team works as a sub-consultant at the Philadelphia Airport System in which we provide comprehensive environmental services in support of various airport renovations and acquisitions. BATTA provides all personnel and equipment necessary to complete the extensive environmental work required for the renovations. The experienced project managers and environmental professionals provided by BATTA help to facilitate the completion of the work in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with FAA and local regulations. Maryland Transportation Authority

SUPERSTRUCTURE REPAIRS AND ZONE PAINTING OF VARIOUS BRIDGES ON I-95 AND I-395 SOUTH OF FORT MCHENRY TUNNEL

PROJECT SCOPE

The work performed under this contract is located along Interstate Routes 95 and 395 mainline and ramps south of the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore City. The scope of work includes superstructure repairs to various bridges, such as installing fatigue retrofits for steel box girder diaphragms, installing new drainage troughs, cleaning existing drainage troughs, cleaning and painting of steel surfaces, providing for all necessary Maintenance of Vehicular, Railroad and Lightrail Traffic (MOT), and completing additional repairs as assigned by the Engineer. This project included the maintenance and repairs of 52 Baltimore Bridges.

BATTA serves as the environmental and health and safety consultant for this overall project. Specifically, as a subcontractor BATTA has provided the following services:

  • Worker protection compliance plan development and implementation
  • Environmental protection plan development and implementation
  • Waste and Hazardous Materials plan development
  • HAZMAT investigation / lead abatement design
  • Waste handling and disposal services
  • Air quality monitoring
